Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs lean ground beef
  • 12 oz elbow macaroni
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with non-stick spray or butter.
  3. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the macaroni until al dente.
  4. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with the diced onions, breaking the meat into small crumbles.
  5. Once the beef is no longer pink, drain excess grease and add minced garlic, cooking for one more minute.
  6. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce, then let simmer for about five minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in sour cream and two cups of shredded cheese.
  8. Fold in the cooked macaroni until evenly coated.
  9. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, spread evenly, and top with the remaining cup of cheese.
  10. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbling.
  11. Let rest for five minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, shred your own cheese from a block. Do not overcook the pasta, and let the casserole rest after baking to ensure the sauce sets properly.
